Problem

create a range finder camera that allowed for both 35mm film and digital photos to be created.

Process

I started by researching the existing products, analyzing the details that are necessary, and understanding the functionality of a range finder camera. From there, I produced sketches to understand the form and ways I wanted to camera to work. Finally I created different 3D prints to test what form best fit the hand.

Solution

the Dualis Camera functions as both a 35mm film camera and a digital camera using a range finder method. the User is provided with two backs which seamlessly slide in and out of their pocket and connects to the USB-C port which makes the camera functional and secure. The body is crafted from an aluminum alloy which is both light and durable and allows for portability. The main body has a joy stick and power switch to operate and the Digital attachment has touch screen so that one can use both manual and digital settings.

Film + Digital

This Concept allows for both film and Digital photos to be taken using the same body.

Moodboard

The form was intended to be modern and sleek using natural and durable materials.

Ideation

My process always starts out with some rough sketching as I start to discover different forms.
.

Form Exploration

It is important for me to see all of the forms next to each other. Here I placed them in a grid making micro changes to see what feels organic.

Final Concept

Here is the final concept of the Dualis Camera. A rangefinder body that allows for both film and digital photos to be processed.
